Rainy Days Are Fun in Andes
I’ve blogged alot in my head and on various scraps of paper over the last few months. Wonder if I can ethically back-date a few posts. Will ask Randy Cohen when I see him.
Meanwhile, this is very current: it’s raining and dreary again, tho it’s the summer solstice, and in our dreams, if not our reality, the sunniest day of the year. Don’t know if it’s the 17th, 18th or 19th day out of 20 this month with precipitation (have to use the generic term because that sci-fi hail storm of mothball pellets last Monday that literally covered Route 28 with white and brought tractor trailers to a halt interjected a rat-tat-tat, look-at-me spectacular show into the rainy season), but I do know the U.S.Open was cancelled for yesterday at least. And women are wearing cardigan sweaters to fend off the chill, not just because Michelle Obama did when presented to the Queen.
Still a wedding went on here in Andes in high spirits. The groom and many of the wedding party went to law school together in Washington, D.C. One charming guest came in the store yesterday, looking for something to cover her shoulders as her strapless dress planned for later would for sure leave her chilly. Can you imagine — a hard-working government labor lawyer and mother or a one year old gets to have a week-end of fun and dress up and it’s damper than a poolside hamper. So we scrambled and found the perfect wrap to match her fuchsia dress. She came in later to show me before going off to the wedding reception at the Andes Hotel, and she looked gorgeous and happy. And I felt glad to see her so. Speaking of stores, shopping was at a peak yesterday, cause who wanted to even look at a garden filled with sad- slug-infested hostas or droopy tomatoes in that weather, much less work in it.
And Chace-Randall’s opening for Christie Scheele’s new show was packed and brimming with chatty and interesting people. The art was marvelous, and we were happy to doff our umbrellas and enter a warm and inviting space hosted by gallery director Zoe Randall, with husband Tom Lavazzi pouring wine and identifying the unusual and irresistible cheeses.
Then John and I enjoyed an early father’s day meal cooked and presented by his daughter, Paisley and son-in-law Dean Wilson, with entertainment by the ebullient Kai Wilson, aged 4.
A full day in Andes. Mother Nature: You can’t rain on our parade!! Hah!!
